Description

Empire Rye whiskey was mashed, fermented, distilled and aged over 4 years in New York. Glenns Creek and 5094 distilling teamed up and acquired the barrel in February 2026. Some of the proceeds from this barrel will go to Tom Jones of 5094 Distilling and towards Tom’s efforts to restore the Old Lewis Hunter distillery. 

Barrel 1 is 111.2 proof (55.6 ABV) and is 54 months old. The mash bill is 94% rye and 6% malted barley.

Here are the criteria to be called “Empire Rye”:

Key Production Standards

To be labeled Empire Rye, a whiskey must meet these self-enforced (and soon-to-be codified) requirements 

-Mash bill: At least 75% rye grain grown in New York State (any varietal, anywhere in the state).

-Distillation: Mashed, fermented, distilled, barreled, and aged at a single New York distillery in one distilling season.

-Proof limits: Distilled to no more than 160 proof; barreled at 115 proof or lower (legal limit is 125 proof).

-Aging: Aged for at least two years in charred, new American oak barrel
